Amelie about Nobel Prize and research conducted at CBH
At this time of year, it is always exciting to follow the press conferences and hear which researchers are awarded this year's Nobel Prize, and it is especially fun when the awarded research is related to the research conducted at KTH and the CBH School.
On Monday, the first prize was announced, in medicine and physiology, which went to Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman for their discoveries on modification of nucleoside bases, which enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19. This was of course a very important application, but the technology can also be used in other areas.
On the KTH intranet, you can read an interview with two of our professors , Per-Åke Nygren and Johan Rockberg, who both conduct research related to this technology, with the aim of developing new cancer drugs.
On Wednesday, the Chemistry Prize was presented to Moungi Bawendi, Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov for their discovery and development of quantum dots. There is also research at KTH concerning the development and study of different types of quantum dots and I am sure that many people at our school have used them in their research.
