CBH's Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström talks about the progress of the proposals presented in the report on the career system at KTH and the work to review the assessment criteria for employment and promotion as a teacher.

Last year, an investigation was conducted into the career system at KTH, and the new proposals presented in the investigation were then sent to the schools for consultation. At CBH School, the investigation was discussed at a digital school staff meeting, which was attended by one of the investigators, Vice-Dean Nina Wormbs, and then everyone on the staff had the opportunity to submit their comments via a web survey.

Two proposals move forward

Following the consultation process, the Vice-Chancellor has now decided to move forward with some of the proposals, while others will be investigated further. One of the proposals is to establish a new type of teaching position, with the working title of ‘assistant lecturer’, which is intended for teachers whose main duties are in undergraduate or advanced level education. The idea is also that lecturers with doctoral degrees who teach at this level will be able to apply for promotion to the new teaching position.

Another proposal that is currently being pursued is to establish new positions with the working titles ‘research specialist’ and ‘senior research specialist’. These positions may serve as alternatives to employment as a researcher for those who have a specialist role in research and, for example, work at a research infrastructure at KTH.

Assessment criteria under review

In parallel with the proposals in the career system review, work is underway to review the assessment criteria for employment and promotion as a teacher at KTH. A working group led by Dean Sofia Ritzén has done a thorough job of trying to renew the assessment criteria, and a proposal is now being discussed at KTH. I think it is very positive that the assessment criteria are being clarified and believe that this will facilitate the work of both the recruitment committees and the promotion committees.
