Amelie on the evaluation of SciLifeLab

Published Feb 07, 2024

Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about SciLifeLab's International Advisory Board (IAB).

This week, KTH and the other host universities were visited by SciLifeLab's International Advisory Board (IAB), which will evaluate SciLifeLab and make recommendations for future development. This year's evaluation is the fifth since 2015 and this year the entire visit will take place in Uppsala. During a three-day programme, the infrastructure platforms, research and the various investments made within the framework of SciLifeLab will be presented and discussed.

The last IAB visit took place in 2021 and much has happened since then. In 2021, the pandemic was still ongoing and COVID-19 research, in which researchers at the CBH School made valuable contributions, was highly topical. At the same time, the new KAW-funded Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) programme had just started, but had not made much progress. Today, the DDLS programme is in full swing, with a large number of already completed recruitments of assistant lecturers, postdocs and PhD students, and many ongoing research projects. Operations at Campus Solna have grown considerably and the premises are currently very crowded. For the CBH School, the development of SciLifeLab and Campus Solna is of particular interest as we have a large number of employees at SciLifeLab, working within the research infrastructures and research groups.

Hopefully, the IAB can help us to improve and it will be interesting to hear what their recommendations are this time.
