Published Apr 28, 2022

Head of School Mikael Lindström writes about the conference Times Higher Education Innovation & Impact Summit 2022, which KTH hosted this week.

This week, KTH hosted the Times Higher Education Innovation & Impact Summit 2022. I myself participated in a panel debate on sustainability in the fashion industry together with, among others, H&M. The debate was led by Professor Ulrica Edlund (CBH) in an excellent way. There was a discussion of an hour and a half, where the importance of more engineers becoming interested in the fashion industry was emphasized. This industry accounts for about ten percent of the world’s yearly total carbon dioxide emission.

Times Higher Education also announced its "Impact Rankings" during the week and KTH ended up in 42nd place out of the 1406 evaluated universities in the world. THE Impact Rankings assess universities' performance against the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is the fourth year that KTH is on the ranking list and we were ranked highest among all Swedish universities and seventh among universities in the European Union. Individual goals where KTH was ranked among the top 20 in the world were: Combating climate change (place 9), Sustainable consumption and production (place 18) and Sustainable cities and communities (place 20).
