New Recruitment Committee in the Faculty Board
A new recruitment committee has been formed under the CBH Faculty Board. The committee will prepare employment matters that were previously handled by KTH's Appointments Board.
‘"I hope it will lead to better support when making new recruitments. It's good to make decisions at the school where we have knowledge and understanding of our subject areas and the conditions of the organisation," says Amelie Eriksson Karlström, Head of School at CBH.
The change is due to the schools taking over employment matters from the former KTH joint Appointments Board from the turn of the year, which concerns the establishment of the teaching positions of associate professor, assistant professor, professor and lecturer, as well as the handling of adjuncts, affiliations and docent matters.
Increased collegial influence
"This is part of the new collegial approach to decision-making. More decisions will be made at a level closer to the organisation, and the President believes that the school level is the appropriate one. If it were to be even more decentralised, there could be problems with conflict of interest, as decisions would then risk being made by the closest colleagues," Eriksson Karlström says.
The Recruitment Committee is composed of representatives from the School's departments. It replaces both the central Appointments Board and the School's former Recruitment Committee and is chaired by the School's Responsible for Future Faculty (FFA), Deputy Head of School Mats Jonsson.
Manages the practicalities of recruitment
The exact process for the work of the Recruitment Committee has not yet been finalised. However, the task is to handle the practicalities of an appointment after the Faculty Board has decided to establish a new position in a subject area.
The Recruitment Committee is responsible for forming a recruitment board and developing a job profile. The Recruitment Committee then conducts interviews with the support of experts and submits proposals for employment to the Head of School or President, depending on the level of the position. Eriksson Karlström says, however, that much will continue to be considered as before.
"Mats Jonsson was chairman of our previous recruitment committee and has extensive experience of recruitment matters, which feels good. One difference is that the heads of department will have a slightly clearer role when they present recruitment cases to the Faculty Board. Previously, the FFA was the rapporteur in the KTH joint Appointments Board. One possible advantage is that it is closer, that the person who actually leads the organisation gets to justify a particular appointment, instead of it being done at school level," she says.
