”We can make use of each other’s competencies”

About once a month, they meet to talk about how Communications will be affected by the joint support services. They are KTH’s Head of Communications Åsa Ankarcrona, Gunilla Iverfelt, Head of Brand Support, EEC’S Head of Administration Joakim Palestro and Sabina Fabrizi, Communications Manager at CBH. Sabina is representing the school communicators in the group.

“So far, we have done a SWOT analysis where we have mapped out the strengths, weaknesses, risks, and opportunities in the communications area. We have identified what competencies we have at KTH when it comes to communication, but also what competencies we have that aren’t being used, and what we actually lack. We have also identified some areas that need to be clarified in order to be able to create an equivalent support. These areas are Lifelong Learning, Futures of Education and the communications support for the Competence centres,” says Sabina Fabrizi.

“The next step will be to review how we work with events and the distribution between procured services and what we can produce internally. There’s also a need for streamlining when it comes to support for social media, the production of newsletters, and the handling of contacts in different mailing systems.

Something the group do have in mind is that the communications support differs between KTH’s five schools, both when it comes to resources and what work areas are prioritised.

“One idea with joint support services is that it will lead to more equivalent support. How it will affect the communications area, in the end, is something we don’t know as of yet.”

Sabina Fabrizi is positive about the joint support services in the communications area.

“I think this will work out well since it will hopefully lead to finding more and new common routines and work, better-distributed resources, and a greater sense of community.”

“At the communications unit at CBH, we already cooperate with other schools when it comes to, for example, Lifelong Learning and Researchers’ Noticeboard. With the joint support services, we will hopefully be able to cooperate even more with other communication officers at KTH. I believe that we can find a way to simplify and streamline our work by making use of each other’s competencies and find ways to work together.”

Can you see any risks?

No, not as long as we continue to work closely with the core business and can manage to create coherent communication at KTH as a whole and a sense of belonging and a common purpose.

Will we notice any of this in January 2023?

What will happen in January is that the schools' support services will form five new departments together with GVS. After that, the development work will continue gradually until autumn 2o26.
