On December 6, the Swedish Energy Agency officially published the decision about launch of the new Strategic Innovation Programme for Smart Sustainable Cities (SIP-SSC) supported in cooperation with Formas and Vinnova. The programme will run for 12 years with a yearly budget of 40 million kronor.

Smart Sustainable Cities is Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas joint venture for strategic innovation areas.

The primary purpose of the Programme is to support Swedish and European energy and climate commitments by facilitating the transition to smart and sustainable cities. The ambition is to strengthen Sweden’s leading role in smart and sustainable urban development, building on the country’s strengths in research, innovation and business creation. While striving for leadership, the SIP-SSC will work with other leading countries and cities to form a global centre of excellence in SSC.

Director of KTH Energy Platform, Dr. Olga Kordas, who now has become the coordinator of the Innovation Programme for Smart Sustainable Cities, led the work on application.

Innovation Programme is co-financed by the involved actors and will receive 40 million kronor per year within next twelve years.
