About how users can find the computer name or VPN IP address on a KTH Windows workplace computer.
Occasionally KTH IT-Support needs to remotely connect to your KTH Windows workplace computer in order to give support. To be able to remotely connect to the computer, we need to know either its name or its VPN IP address.
This page contains instructions on how you as a user can obtain the necessary information to provide to KTH IT-Support.
Find computer name on a KTH Windows workplace computer
When your KTH Windows workplace computer is connected to KTH's wired network, KTH IT Support can connect to it remotely when they know the computer's name.
Click on the Windows start button(1) and open the Computer Information program, which is located under the heading KTH Windows Applications and has a information bubble (2) as an icon.
The computer name that appears beside Computername is what you should give and it has the format KTH-xxxxx.
Type cmd in the search box on the taskbar, and then press the return key to launch the Command Prompt application.
Launch the program, type hostname in the app window, and then press the return key.
The computer name is then displayed and has the format KTH-xxxxx.
Click on the icon in the taskbar
In the list on the left you can see the computer name which is in the format KTH-xxxxx.
Find VPN IP address on a KTH Windows workplace computer
If you work remotely on a KTH Windows workplace computer and connect it through VPN, KTH IT-Support will be able to connect to it remotely when they know the computer's IP address.
Click on the Windows start button(1) and open the Computer Information program, which is located under the heading KTH Windows Applications and has a information bubble (2) as an icon.
The IP address next to VPN IPAddress is the one you need to give us. The address has the format 130.237.xx.xx. Please note that every time you connect to the VPN service you will receive a unique IP address that needs to be re-shared to KTH IT Support.

The IPv4 address that is under PPP adapter VPN to KTH is the one. The address should be in the format 130.237.xx.xx. Please note that every time you connect to the VPN service you will receive a unique IP address that needs to be re-shared to KTH IT Support.
