Two new committees for appointments

As of 1 January, KTH's schools have taken over responsibility for teacher appointments, which has led the Faculty Board to set up two new bodies: the Recruitment Committee and the Docent Committee. These replace the previous central bodies and school recruitment committees and strengthen the strategic work of the Faculty Board.
Sebastian Stichel is the chair of the new SCI School Recruitment Committee.
Can you describe the role and function of the Recruitment Committee?
"The Recruitment Committee consists of five members and four alternates. The School's Responsible for Faculty Renewal (FFA) is the Chair, and Jens Bardarson is the Vice Chair. The committee is responsible for establishing job profiles and appointing experts in recruitment matters. In addition, we are a pool for appointing faculty members to recruitment boards, which then assess applications and establish ranking lists for individual recruitments."
Malin Åkermo, chair of the docent committee, how did the work of appointing the committees proceed? "We opened up for the entire faculty to nominate both themselves and colleagues to the new committees. At the same time, we contacted former members of previous recruitment committees to explore their interest in continuing. The Faculty Board then reviewed the nominations and established the two new committees with a balanced representation of gender, experience and institutional affiliation. For the Recruitment Committee, we also made nominations based on interviews with candidates who had experience of similar work in other committees."
What do the new committees mean for the work of the Faculty Board in the future?
"The Faculty Board will be able to focus more on strategic issues, such as creating new positions. The committees are crucial for ensuring quality and for creating a closer link with the appointment processes", says Malin Åkermo.
