Framework for the integration of gender equality, diversity and equal conditions in education

There are several important documents concerning gender equality, diversity, and equal conditions in higher education at KTH. Here, we present some laws, mandates, ambitions, goals, plans, and strategies that are useful to know as they form a framework for KTH's work on gender equality, diversity, and equal conditions in education.

KTH's Central Mission, Ambitions, and Goals

KTH's efforts for gender equality, diversity, and equal conditions are based on the UN's Declaration of Human Rights, as well as Swedish and EU legislation. They also draw from global and local goals for sustainability, equality, and diversity. KTH has a long tradition of addressing these issues within education, with substantial support found in various internal documents, policies, plans, and statements of values.

Ensuring that all students have equal conditions and that no one is discriminated against based on gender, ethnicity, or other factors is fundamental to a fair educational environment and ethical responsibility. Therefore, the work for gender equality, diversity, and equal opportunities is our responsibility in contributing to a sustainable society where everyone has the chance to reach their full potential. An inclusive and equitable educational environment, enriched with diverse perspectives and experiences, fosters new ideas, creativity, and innovation, enhancing both education and research quality. To remain competitive on a global scale, we need to attract and retain talent from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Additionally, Swedish and EU legislation requires us to actively promote gender equality and counteract discrimination.

Learning about gender equality, diversity, and equal opportunities is also a matter of sustainability. We need the knowledge and skills to effectively advocate for gender equality, diversity, and equal conditions in our professional practices.
