Inclusive culture

An inclusive culture in education means that the students feel that their contributions and perspectives are valued and respected equally. The following pages offer tips and ideas for creating an inclusive study environment and teaching.

Inclusive teaching

Inclusive teaching in higher education refers to the ways in which pedagogy, curriculum and assessment are designed and delivered to engage students in learning that is meaningful, relevant and accessible to all. It embraces a view of the individual and individual difference as the source of diversity that can enrich the lives and learning of others. 

Inclusive teaching strategies

Inclusive teaching strategies aim to increase the conditions for learning for all students regardless of background, characteristics and expectations and create a learning environment where all students feel equally important. It may be that some of us may experience the teaching environment as neutral, but by reflecting on differences in the student group and on ourselves in relation to the students, we can become better at making conscious choices of teaching strategies and be better prepared for tensions that may arise in the group.
