Collegial Collaboration with Kuppi

Kuppi is a digital space for collegial learning and professional collaboration at KTH. Kuppi enables communication between colleagues with shared interests and offers opportunities to exchange ideas and insights with each other. Hosted on Microsoft Teams, Kuppi allows discussions to continue beyond activities such as workshops and courses, fostering a dynamic learning community.

What is Kuppi?

Why is it called Kuppi?

The word stems from the Sri Lankan concept "Kuppi"; an informal, student-led study group where students gather to discuss subjects with one another. Kuppi is a Sinhala word and can be translated to "bottle," symbolizing a concentrated space for knowledge sharing.

Kuppi is a digital space where KTH employees can engage in collegial learning. The word stems from a Sri Lankan concept of informal study groups taking place outside the regular education structure. In a Kuppi you can find colleagues who are interested in similar topics as you and share experiences and insights with each other.

A Kuppi can arise for different reasons, i.e. following up a course or a workshop, facilitating collaboration within group or continuing a discussion from a meetup. However, they all fill the same purpose - creating professional communities that foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Different ways to use Microsoft Teams

You can use Microsoft Teams through your web browser or as an application on your computer or mobile phone. The choice of platform depends on the use case – for full-scale work, the desktop app is the best option, while the web version works well for occasional use, and the mobile app provides convenient access on the go.

In Kuppi, we use Microsoft Teams as a platform for continued discussions and development together. Here are some additional resources if you want to know more about Microsoft Teams:

How do I participate in a Kuppi?

Initially, Kuppi will function as an optional follow-up after participating in a workshop with E-learning. After completing a workshop, you will be invited to a dedicated Kuppi in Teams, together with people sharing similar interests as you. This will be a space where you can follow up on discussions from the workshop and keep sharing ideas and thoughts. If you are interested in participating, you will get an invitation and information on how to get started by email.

There are currently a few different active Kuppis, including topics such as AI and education, digital examination and presentation technique.

Would you like to be included in a current Kuppi, or do you want to start a new Kuppi on a different topic? Please contact E-leaning and they will help you get started.

How to collaborate in Kuppi

Here are some concrete ways to use Teams to collaborate and develop together:

  • Use the chat to communicate:

    • Share your notes or reflections after participating in a workshop.

    • Start a new post and highlight something interesting. Encourage others to comment and contribute their perspectives.

    • Ask questions in the general channel. Brainstorm solutions or share experiences related to a topic.

    • Plan new initiatives: e.g. a follow-up meeting based on something learned in a workshop.

  • Use the Files tab to share resources:

    • Dig deeper into a topic: Upload documents or links to in-depth material such as articles, examples of applications, or presentations.

    • Ask other participants to share their favourites on a theme and create a shared resource bank.

The structure of a Kuppi in Teams

Channels

In the general channel, you will find information shared with everyone within the Kuppi. Here, you can write posts and share experiences with other KTH employees with similar interests as you.

In addition to the general channel, private channels can be added if needed. Private channels allow you to have more closed discussions and share content relevant only to those in it. Contact the team administrator if you’d like to create a private channel.

The Tab System

At the top of the Teams space, you will find different tabs. Here you can find and share relevant files, links, and other useful information.

A team administrator

Each Kuppi has an administrator who can create new channels and moderate discussions. All administrators are members of the KTH E-learning Object.

Preservation of content

If a channel has been inactive for over six months, it will be archived. Archiving means that all the content of the channel will be preserved and accessible, but there will no longer be possible to engage actively or create new content. All members of the channel will be notified if this happens, and you can undo an archiving if needed.

Kuppi - a part of Future Education

Kuppi is an initiative within the scope of the change programme Future Education at KTH , carried out by the KTH E-learning Object. The activity is based on Future Education framework, specifically principles seven, nine, and ten. This aligns with the purpose of Kuppis: which is to provide KTH employees with a support system for continuous pedagogical and digital competence development through collaboration and experience exchange.
