Funding from the Swedish Institute and STINT

Every year, KTH seeks funding for international activities through the Swedish Institute (SI) and the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT). The grants and scholarship programmes enable KTH to engage in several activities on the theme of education and innovation.

In addition to the European Commission, the Swedish Institute (SI) and the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT) are the largest external donors to KTH's international activities. Every year, KTH seeks funding for several international projects that promote education and innovation for KTH's students, doctoral students, researchers and administrative staff.

The Swedish Institute

The Swedish Institute (SI) is a public agency with a mission to create interest and trust in Sweden abroad. SI works in cooperation with the Baltic Sea region and global development. Cooperation with developing countries is an important and extensive part of SI's mission. The focus is on skills development for individuals who have the potential to contribute to development in democracy and rights. By connecting them to Swedish actors in the field, relationships are created that are of mutual benefit.

STINT

STINT, the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, is tasked with promoting the internationalisation of Swedish higher education and research. STINT offers a number of grants and scholarship programmes where KTH can apply for funding for various forms of international activities in education and research.

Examples of recurring calls:

  • STINT Strategic Grants for Internationalisation: The programme will contribute to strategic internationalisation at the university level. The application must include strategically important internationalisation initiatives that also take advantage of the experience and commitment of individual enthusiasts.
  • STINT International Postdoc: The programme aims to strengthen the quality of Swedish research and higher education by giving recently awarded researchers the opportunity to stay at a foreign host institution. In this way, the postdoctoral researcher is given the opportunity to encounter a different scientific environment, become more independent and expand their international network of contacts.
  • Teaching Sabbatical: The programme provides researchers and teachers passionate about teaching issues with international experiences based on the teaching role, rather than the research role, by allowing them to spend an entire fall semester at a selected host university in Asia, North America or Africa.
