The programme management for Future Education at KTH has welcomed Professor Karin Odelius as new Assistant Programme Manager and CBH-representative, and Team Manager Karin Almgren as new Programme Coordinator (decision by the President in June 2025). Here, Karin A and Karin O share why they wanted to work with the Future Education programme, the biggest challenges they foresee, and what they look forward to most.

Following the decision made by the programme owner (President Anders Söderholm) in June 2025 regarding the organisational structure of the Future Education programme, the programme management team was able to relaunch after the summer break with Karin Odelius as assistant programme manager and representative of the School of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH), and Karin Almgren as coordinator. In addition to teaching and research, Karin Odelius serves as Deputy Director of First and Second Cycle Education at CBH. Karin Almgren is a Team Manager at the Management Office (MO) within the University Administration (VS). Below, they share why they wanted to work with the Future Education programme, the biggest challenges they anticipate, and what they look forward to most.

Why did you want to work with the Future Education programme?

– I consider it a privilege to teach. I have long been involved in undergraduate education, first as a Programme Director (PA) and more recently as Deputy Director of First and Second Cycle Education (GA) at CBH. The work with the Future Education programme is both personally exciting and essential for KTH as an institution. So when I was given the opportunity to contribute to the transformation that Future Education at KTH represents, it was an obvious choice for me to get involved. Being part of an initiative where we can learn from each other’s pedagogical approaches, run pilots for new teaching methods, and collaborate to strengthen education at KTH for the future feels fantastic.

What is the biggest challenge, and what are you most looking forward to in your new role?

– Right now, I mostly see opportunities and look forward to contributing another perspective to the work. I come from a hands-on, lab-based environment, and I believe reflecting this in education is essential. I’m genuinely excited to support the pedagogical development and the ongoing transformation of our programmes across all campuses. As in many other areas, one challenge is getting even more people on board and broadly sharing the knowledge that exists and is being built. At the same time, I look forward to doing that, so the question is whether it’s a challenge or more of an inspiration.

Why did you want to work with the Future Education programme?

– Education can have such a profound impact on people’s lives, and I find few things as rewarding to work with as education and educational development. Over the years at KTH, I’ve gravitated toward educational development through various roles – from programme-responsible student to teacher and director of studies, and now as coordinator for the Future Education programme. My goal is to contribute, both in big and small ways, to improving and facilitating things for students, teachers, and those leading educational initiatives at KTH. As coordinator, I hope to do just that.

What is the biggest challenge, and what are you most looking forward to in your new role?

– What I enjoy most is the breadth of the Future Education programme. All schools are involved – both through the experienced and insightful individuals in the programme management team and through the development projects carried out by engaged and knowledgeable people at the schools and within the operational support. Change work is always challenging, but with these conditions, I’m confident we’ll move KTH’s education forward together.
