Ouriginal Shuts Down – New Plagiarism Detection System on the Way

Published May 05, 2025

On October 31, 2025, the provider of Ouriginal will shut down the system. Work is underway to find a new solution to ensure continued support for plagiarism detection.

Ouriginal, the tool used to detect plagiarism in exams and written assignments, has been acquired and is being phased out. The service will be discontinued on October 31—one year earlier than expected. Sunet (the Swedish University Computer Network, which is responsible for meeting the data communication needs of Swedish higher education institutions) is currently in the process of procuring a replacement that will continue to provide effective support for plagiarism detection.

KTH E-learning is preparing to implement the new system in Canvas and will provide further information and support as soon as a new tool has been selected. The aim is to ensure a smooth transition without any disruption.

In October and November, we plan to hold information sessions and offer introductions and guidance in various formats. The intranet will be continuously updated with details about the features and use of the new system.
