The American University of Maryland and KTH have taken another step forward in their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

“The idea is to make the collaboration more concrete and structured. Examples of how we will develop our collaboration include student, research and thesis exchanges, as well as joint seed funding,” says Stefan Östlund, Vice President for International Relations at KTH.
The University of Maryland is a highly ranked institution. It is ranked 112th in the World University Rankings and is strategically located outside Washington on the east coast of the USA. According to Stefan Östlund, research in areas such as systems engineering and autonomous systems are examples of areas in which the university is extensively active.
"Our collaboration began with control engineering at the research level, but is now becoming much broader.’"
Over the past couple of years, KTH has been working to develop and strengthen its contacts and collaborations with American universities, among others.
"We would like to be seen as an alternative for students who might otherwise choose to study in China or the United States.' Sweden and KTH offer fantastic education, " Östlund says.
Is the collaboration affected by the situation facing American universities in relation to President Trump?
"We are proceeding cautiously, allowing our collaborations to develop over time as we do in many other countries. I am convinced that this is best for all parties, including KTH," Östlund says.

The agreement, which spans five years, was signed this spring.
