Parental allowance supplement/parental salary

Parental allowance supplement /Parental salary is paid by KTH for a maximum of 360 days per childbirth. Parental allowance supplement /Parental salary is 10 % of salary and 80 % of the salary above 10 base amounts. Note that there are temporary rules.

New payroll and time reporting system

In the autumn of 2024, KTH will implement a new payroll and time reporting system, KTH-HR. HR, managers, and employees will transition to the new system. The new system and procedures will be launched and implemented during a transition period starting October 21, 2024.

  • You should apply for parental leave no later than two months in advance.
  • You report your absence yourself in KTH-HR.

Parental salary

Employees who are on leave for the birth or care of an adopted child are entitled to parental salary if parental benefit is being paid by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

Receipts from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency no longer need to be submitted to KTH. Parental allowance supplement /Parental salary is payable until the child is 36 months old and for a maximum of 360 days per session in relation to the scope of the leave. If you are on 50 % leave, for example, this is considered technically as one session per day. For adopted children, parental allowance supplement /parental salary is payable a for a maximum of 36 months after the child has come into the care of adoptive parents. Leave with parental salary is based on holiday pay.

Temporary parental benefit for care of children (VAB)

Temporary parental benefit for care of children is paid by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency for care of sick children under 12 years to the guardian or to whoever replaces the guardian when this person is sick. When an employee is on leave with temporary benefit for care of children (VAB), KTH will pay 77,6 % of the portions of pay above the base amount: 10 days per year.

In connection with the birth, the father or the other parent is entitled to temporary parental benefit for 10 days.
