Security guards on campus
KTH’s security department is responsible for coordinating security guard services on campus to ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. The security guards work to prevent crimes, manage incidents, and maintain order on the premises, while collaborating with other security functions to handle emergencies and risks.
At KTH campus, security guards are an important part of the safety work. Their main tasks are to prevent crimes, monitor premises, and handle situations that may impact safety, such as fires or accidents. Security guards have the right to intervene in security incidents and can contact the police or fire department if needed. They primarily focus on observing and reporting security risks, and are often in contact with security staff on campus. Through the Safety and Security Department’s TiB function, security guards can also contact staff when needed, even during evenings, nights, and weekends.
Public order officers are also present when required. They have specific delegations to remove individuals from a location, perform body searches, and detain people during disturbances, which means their work is more focused on maintaining order and security in public spaces than on surveillance. The need for a public order officer is assessed by the Swedish Police Authority and is outlined in granted permits.
