Fire safety training and evacuation drills at KTH

KTH aims to work actively to ensure that employees and students have knowledge of fire in order to prevent and limit injuries, near-accidents and accidents as a result of fire. The safety function at KTH is charged with the task of planning for and providing training and drills in fire safety.

The training aims to contribute to a basic knowledge of fire risks, the generation of fire, and how fire can be prevented and managed. The training shall also be adapted to environments with special risks, such as laboratories, as well as special functions such as fire safety officers and evacuation leaders.

Basic fire safety training (theory and practical exercise) and training for fire safety officers and evacuation leaders are offered every semester. Basic fire safety training and practical exercises are carried out in collaboration with the consultant with which KTH has an agreement. Current training programmes are published on the staff pages for training under work environment and safety. Registration for these courses takes place via KTH’s staff training function.

Fire and evacuation exercises are carried out in collaboration with the fire safety consultant with which KTH has an agreement. The exercises are carried out on the basis of activity-specific conditions, with or without smoke, and aim to provide employees and the operation’s fire safety organisation with skills in coordination, communication and the safe evacuation of the building/premises. Evacuation drills can be ordered using a specially produced form in the form archive.

Training can also be carried out as required at each school. Separate fire safety courses can be ordered using a specially produced form in the form archive.
