Systematic Fire Protection Work at Events
Fire safety is a priority to ensure security and safety at events. To prevent accidents and respond quickly in an emergency, carefully planned routines and a clear fire protection organization are required. On this page, you will find information for those responsible for events at KTH on what you can do to reduce the risk of fire and ensure that guidelines are followed.
Fire safety is crucial to protect both life and property at events. By having clear routines and an active fire protection organization, risks of fire are minimized, and everyone can act quickly in an emergency. The responsibility for fire safety lies with the organizer or permit holder, who must appoint a fire safety officer and an evacuation leader depending on the scale of the event. It is their job to follow safety regulations, conduct self-inspections, and ensure that all measures are in place to guarantee a safe environment for all participants.
Systematic Fire Protection Work
The organizer/permit holder is responsible for fire safety at each event.
The fire protection organization should include a fire safety officer and an evacuation leader depending on the event's scope.
Self-Inspection of Fire Safety
The organizer must have procedures for self-inspection to prevent fires and reduce consequences.
A self-inspection checklist should be completed before each event and be available for security personnel during inspections.
Deviations from the self-inspection must be addressed before the event starts.
Fire Protection
Fire protection should be adapted to the activities in the premises.
Changes to the premises or movable furnishings must be approved by KTH to ensure they do not undermine the fire protection.
The technical fire protection must always include evacuation alarms and fire extinguishers.
Technical equipment must not be tampered with, and evacuation alarms may only be handled by approved personnel.
Smoke machines are not allowed in KTH premises.
Number of People
The maximum allowed number of people is based on evacuation conditions and the classification of the activity.
The total number of people at each event must be assessed considering the layout of the premises and safety aspects.
Fire Safety Officer
The organizer must appoint a fire safety officer who monitors the fire protection and ensures the premises maintain their design.
The fire safety officer communicates with KTH, the security company's guards, and the fire department during fire or evacuation situations.
The fire safety officer must have completed KTH's safety and fire course (the course must be retaken at least every 5 years).
Evacuation Leader
The evacuation leader should have good knowledge of the premises and awareness of evacuation routes and the assembly point.
The evacuation leader is responsible for ensuring that evacuation routes are clear and that doors are functioning before the event.
The evacuation leader will initiate evacuation and guide guests to the assembly point.
The evacuation leader must also have completed KTH's safety and fire course (the course must be retaken at least every 5 years).
