Amelie on collegial influence

During the autumn, intensive work has been underway to develop a new structure for collegial influence and decision-making at KTH. The aim of the work is to strengthen the collegial influence at KTH and move decision-making to a level closer to operations, where there is sufficient knowledge to make good decisions.

In the new organisation, each school will have a faculty board, which according to the proposal will have school-wide responsibility for strategic planning of education and research, be responsible for the school's work on monitoring and developing quality, and be responsible for collegial support within the school. In parallel with the development of tasks and responsibilities for the faculty board, preparations are underway for the election of teacher representatives to the board.

The school has a nomination committee that is currently reviewing the candidates nominated for the board. In November, the nomination committee will present its proposal and in December an election will be held so that the Faculty Board can be in place and begin its work already in January 2024. As Head of School, I will lead the School's Faculty Board, which will consist of a total of six members representing teachers and researchers, two external members and two student representatives.

The new collegial structure will mean a fairly major change for KTH and it will certainly be a little messy at first, before the new way of working has taken hold. In the long run, however, I believe that it will work well – hopefully the proximity to the organisation will make the processes more efficient and the decisions taken better anchored. I hope for great commitment and a high turnout in the December elections!
