The school's management group retreat at Tammsvik

Published Apr 10, 2019

The school management, including all head of departments and divisions held a retreat at Tammsvik in Bro last week.

Last week the school management, including all head of departments and divisions held a retreat at Tammsvik in Bro. A large part of the retreat was devoted to mapping the continued organizational journey of the School ( Management group blog ). The goal is to reach the KTH “standard organization”, where divisions are part of departments. The discussions at the retreat where very constructive and there were many proposals and comments submitted in advances by departments and divisions.

There seems to be a general consensus that the number of departments need to be fewer. It was agreed that the three “largest” departments CS, EEE and IS should be the cornerstones of the future organization and that the current divisions should be the building blocks of this organization.

Still, a lot of work remains before we can settle an organizational solution that both fulfils the KTH requirements, and works for us at EECS. Now, the department heads (prefekter) of the three large departments have the task to carry the discussion one step further. Based on findings of the retreat and some proposed organizational sketches, they are to involve the other “prefekts” and affected divisions to address the following questions:

  • How should the departments be configured (which division belong where)?
  • How should the management responsibilities be divided/shared inside the department (including the role of the “prefekt”)?

The departments heads are required to report their work by June 7th, in preparation for a general discussion in the School management team (“LG”) on June 11.
