Open Zoom-meeting regarding the expansion of the Technical Preparatory Year/Semester

Published Apr 28, 2020

KTH will hold an information session via Zoom on Wednesday, 29 April from 12:00-13:00 to discuss how we can together accomplish the mandate of expanding the Technical Preparatory Year. Welcome!

KTH is facing a great challenge for the upcoming fall. We have been given a government mandate to significantly increase the number of beginners in the technical preparatory programmes (full-year and semester). This mandate involves the addition of 700 first year students in the fall term 2020. This will require extra resources from all of the KTH Schools, even those who do not currently offer the Technical Preparatory Year/Semester programme.

KTH will accomplish this partly through admitting more students to the existing qualifying courses, but primarily by investing in developing the corresponding programmes based on blended learning, ie. with a large part of the programme given through distance learning.

Sebastiaan Meijer, Vice-Dean at CBH has been tasked with leading this collaboration. He will be holding a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, 29 April from 12:00-13:00 to discuss the possible arrangements.

Background

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the anticipated consequences of increased unemployment, the government has given KTH among other higher education institutions the mandate to make it possible for a larger number of individuals to re-educate themselves. The first step is to ensure that there are more eligible applicants for the various engineering programmes. This will be made possible by significantly increasing the number of seats in the qualifying courses, Technical Preparatory Year and Technical Preparatory Semester during the upcoming two years, beginning in the fall 2020.
