Prestigious IEEE award to EECS associated professor

Last week Qianwen Xu, associate professor at EECS’ Division of Electric Power and Energy Systems received the J. David Irwin Early Career Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Since its establishment in 2005, this award has honored one outstanding young researcher worldwide each year who has made significant contributions to the advancement of industrial electronics. It is the highest recognition conferred by the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society for researchers within ten years of their last academic degree. The award is selected based on the technical importance of the contribution, subject matter, originality, and prospects for future success.
Qianwen Xu receives the award for her “Outstanding Contributions of Advanced Control and AI Solutions in Power Electronic Dominated Grids for Enhanced Stability and Security.”
“I am honored to be granted this prestigious award” says Qianwen Xu.
“This is not only an important milestone in my academic journey but also a strong motivation to continue pursuing research that bridges theory, engineering practice, and real-world energy challenges. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisors, collaborators, students, friends, and my family for their continuous support. I look forward to expanding collaboration with the global academic community and industry partners to shape the future of resilient, intelligent, and sustainable energy systems.”
In addition to the award itself, the prize consists of a $2,000 prize check and travel expense reimbursement $3,000 for attending the award ceremony in 51st Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IECON 2025) in Madrid this year.
