Describe your societal impact

KTH contributes to the surrounding society through excellent research, education, and collaboration. Each researcher contributes to KTH's impact and how the public views the university.

The positive effect that KTH has on society is called impact. Our press and content team cover KTH’s significant research advancements, influential grants and new innovations at a general level. Researchers themselves are also essential in spreading knowledge of KTH’s research and its importance. One way is to write an impact story.

Write an impact story

Putting your research into words is an excellent way to enhance understanding of your work and how it contributes to the bigger picture. Writing an impact story is a good place to start. It is an overall description that answers the following:

Problem

What problem/challenge is the research going to solve? Why is it of importance? Why this particular research/education?

Solution

Briefly describe the research/education. What is it about, what is the solution to the problem/challenge? When can it be applied in real life?

Result (impact)

What does it change, and for whom? Short-term and long-term? What effects might it have?

Field of application

After completing an impact story, you can:

  • Publish it on your profile page as a subpage.
  • Turn it into a suggested news article.
  • Add it to your LinkedIn profile.

Concrete examples of this kind are also helpful when giving presentations and applying for funds or grants.
