Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE)

Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability (WISE) is Sweden’s largest research programme in material science for a sustainable future. In total, the programme covers SEK 2.7 billion during the period 2022–2033. KTH is one of seven participating partner universities.

WISE's overarching vision is to perform materials science at the international forefront, to empower sustainable technologies and to train future leaders in society, industry and academia.

In order to acheive WISE's vision and goals, the programme is based on four strategic instruments: Industry collaborations, strategic recruitments, support for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers as well as establishing and strenghtening technology platforms.

Organisation

The programme is run jointly by KTH, Chalmers University of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, Luleå University of Technology and Uppsala University, Stockholm University. Linköping University is the host university. The programme also includes affiliated groups of excellence at Karlstad University, Umeå University and Örebro University.

KTH is represented in the WISE Steering Board as well as the University Representative Group. KTH also has an internal reference group for WISE.
