Install software via Software Center

1. Type "Software Center" in the start menu or search bar and finish by pressing the return key to launch the program.
2. Check if the software you want to install appears in the list of softwares. If you can´t find it in the list you can try and search for it . 

   

3. Select the desired software and then install it. 

   

If the dialog box below appears, it means that programs need to be closed in order for the installation to continue. The easiest way to do this is to click on "Close programs".

Pleas note that there is often an option to postpone the installation for a while, which can be useful if, for example, you need to save something in the program that the installation wants to close. By clicking on "Defer", you can temporarily postpone the installation.

Once you have clicked on "Close Programs", the software will be installed and you do not need to do anything else.

One of the advantages is the ability for you as a user to choose when updates will install without having to reboot the computer straight away. 

Accordingly, you as a user have the ability to defer the installation if the opportunity does not suit you for various reasons, as in this case defer and continue to work with Firefox until you want to close the program and then continue with the installation.

In many cases though, you as a user will not notice that the programs are being updated, this is done undetectably.

After you have clicked Close programs, the application will automatically update whilst you are logged in to KTH Windows. By this point, you do not need to do anything.

If you do not see any programs at all in the Software Center, go to the Options tab and click on "Sync Policy" which is located under Computer maintenance. If software is still not visible please contact it-support@kth.se .
