Governing Board and Advisory Board for responsible internationalization

KTH works with responsible internationalization. An Advisory Board for responsible internationalization (RAI) supports the schools and divisions at KTH with risk management. The Advisory Board can, if necessary, escalate questions to the Governing Board for responsible internationalization (SAI). Here you will find information about advisory services at KTH regarding responsible internationalization.

About responsible internationalization

International cooperation in research and higher education is often crucial for excellent research and innovation. In an increasingly uncertain and polarized world, there are geopolitical challenges where openness and cooperation are at risk of being exploited. Openness should be the basis of international cooperation, while there needs to be an awareness of the need to protect national interests, knowledge and technology. KTH is actively working on the co-existence of the core values of openness and international exchange in academia on the one hand, and identification and management of protective measures on the other.

Guidance on responsible internationalization

The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, STINT, together with Lund University, Karolinska Institutet and KTH, has produced a document on responsible internationalization. The document is intended to help university management, heads of department, research leaders and researchers to structure the discussion on how the university, institution or research group should approach international cooperation in a responsible way.

Authorized for advice

Authorized to submit questions to RAI for advice and support are in the first instance heads of schools and heads of division within the university administration. These functions are responsible for coordinating cases that may be sent to RAI for handling. The contact person coordinating cases should ensure that an initial internal assessment has been made and that this has not been sufficient. The contact person must also ensure that the case belongs to one of the specified categories of cases that can be handled by RAI.

Categories of cases that can be handled by RAI:

  • Recruitment, admission to postgraduate studies and invitation of guests for an extended stay, regardless of the type of funding.
  • External funding.
  • External collaborations.
  • Some cases related to KTH Innovation.
