Create and update presentation-based videos (90 min)

In this workshop we will go through how to design, produce, edit and publish recorded presentations in PowerPoint 365, as well as how to easily update previously recorded material.

The research-based content of the workshop is based on Richard E. Mayer's principles of multimedia learning and cognitive load theory, which are developed from extensive studies - as well as a KTH study from 2021 on how students use video material for learning purposes. We will alternate lecture and discussion with practical exercises.

Purpose

This workshop is created based on expressed needs from both teachers and students and is about how to create effective and sustainable recorded presentation material that can be used and reused as multimedia in your teaching.

The workshop is primarily aimed at employees at KTH who often use PowerPoint presentations.

Preparations

Parts of the workshop are "flipped", so participants should have access to and watch videos on KTH Play about recording and editing techniques.

We will use and show the Office 365 app PowerPoint as a tool.

Participants are welcome to bring a PowerPoint presentation ready for recording, but we will provide exercise material.

Time required

1,5 hours (90 mins)

Learning objectives

After participating in this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • adapt and optimize their video presentation material by applying some selected design principles to avoid cognitive overload

  • record, edit and export your presentation-based video

  • update previously recorded material

  • describe some use cases for presentation-based video
