Using Canvas during the degree project
Many parts of the degree project take place outside of Canvas, but different functions in Canvas may be suitable to use during the course of the work. Announcements and discussion forums can be used for communication to all students, and the assessment functions in Canvas can be used for partial submissions and opposition.
Communicate between student, examiner and supervisor
In a degree project course, there are many parties involved and it is important to be clear about the communication channels so that the students do not miss important information. For example, the Announcement function can be used as the main communication channel when it comes to information to all students in the course.
Share documents
During supervision, documents are often shared in different ways and it usually works well to let students and supervisors agree on how they will share the documents between them. If the course has sub-assignments, it is a good idea to submit the documents as assignments in Canvas and leave comments in SpeedGrader . For more ongoing feedback, a live document in OneDrive might work better.
Organise presentations and opposition
If the students are going to find opponents themselves, discussion forums in Canvas can be used for the students to contact each other. Make sure it's set up so students can create discussion posts themselves to make it easier.
Use the peer review function in Canvas
Canvas has a function for peer review that is suitable to use to give the opponent access to the respondent's report. The opponent can annotate in SpeedGrader and attach a file with the opposition report. Read about how to use the feature on the page Start using the peer review function in Canvas .
Plagiarism check via Canvas
According to the rules for degree projects, the degree project report must be checked for plagiarism. An easy way to administer plagiarism checking is to have an assignment in Canvas linked to Ouriginal where students can submit their report. Read more about using Ouriginal in Canvas .
