How to implement anonymous assessment at KTH
Many examination types at KTH are suitable for anonymisation. Several functions, such as Assignments and New Quizzes in Canvas and Möbius quizzes, have built-in support for anonymous assessment. Here you will find more information on how you can anonymise the examination.
Assessment situations are more suitable to make anonymous when it fits the pedagogical scheme and it is easy to implement. You as a teacher decide if and when it is suitable for your course.
Assignments and New Quizzes in Canvas
Both Assignments and New Quizzes are often suitable to anonymise. Read more about how to do this on the page How to assess anonymously in Canvas .
Assignments
Written assignments submitted as Assignments in Canvas are often suitable to anonymise. It is easy to carry out anonymisation of this type, and it generally does not affect the execution of the examination.
New Quizzes
New Quizzes carried out in Canvas are often suitable for anonymisation. The reason is that it does not affect the basic pedagogical idea of the assessment. If the questions are graded automatically, you don't need to anonymise the quiz because no discrimination can occur. However, if at least one question needs manual assessment, you should anonymise the quiz in its settings.
Please note that Classic Quizzes cannot be anonymised.
Möbius quizzes
The Möbius quiz tool is primarily used to create assignments with automatically graded answers, which means that anonymisation is not necessary. Some question types, however, require answers to be assessed manually. There is functionality in Möbius to carry out manual assessment without showing the students' names.
Digital exam with lockdown in computer rooms (KTH Digicertus Exam)
Since a digital exam with lockdown usually generates a digital submission in Canvas as an Assignment or a New Quiz, it is easy to anonymise the assessment according to the above reasoning.
Invigilators monitoring students during the exam is irrelevant from the point of view of anonymous assessment. What is monitored is the students' attempts to mislead and not their performance.
Anonymise a minor written examination
A simple way to anonymise the assessment of minor written examinations by yourself:
- Create a list with the students' names and a personal code per student.
- Have the students identify their written assignments with their personal code instead of their name.
- When the assessment is complete, match each result with the correct student according to the list.
