Workshop: Design for all - accessibility in course rooms
Improve your course and meet the legal requirements for accessibility through this workshop, which focuses on how accessibility is achieved by designing for everyone. The foundation to creating an accessible course room in Canvas is explained and you get the tools you need to deal with the most common problems with accessibility.
Time: Wed 2021-08-25 10.00 - 11.00
Location: Zoom
Language: English
Participating: Björn Ström, Benjamin Gafvelin
Accessibility helps everyone
It is easy to regard accessibility as something to do when you have time and only to help a few individuals, but the design philosophy "Design for all" says the opposite.
This workshop goes through how you as a teacher can use "Design for everyone" to create an accessible course room in Canvas. With a few cornerstones, you can create a teaching environment that everyone can take part in without special solutions.
During the workshop, important concepts will be presented, accessibility tools will be introduced and you will gain practical experience in adapting content to be accessible. You and other teachers will discuss different accessibility adaptations in small groups and then all together.
We who present this workshop recommend that those who participate also take part in "Collegial network meeting: How do you make a Canvas course room available?" afterwards, to discuss how the adaptations can be applied in real course rooms.
