Higher Education Pedagogical courses

KTH's current range of courses in higher education pedagogy is published regularly with course starts. More information and registration can be found on the basic and advanced courses pages. All basic courses are given in English, but some of the advanced courses are given in English and others in Swedish.

A special agreement applies to advanced courses, which means that teachers at the three higher education institutions have the opportunity to participate in each other's advanced courses free of charge, subject to availability.

Facilitating groups and teams in higher education - a national higher education pedagogical course

Linköpings university

Do you want to develop your ability to facilitate (supervise) student groups and improve learning for your students? Then this is the course for you. The course involves a workload of 80 hours (equivalent to 3 credits) and is aimed at teaching staff who actively use learning in student groups. It is an advantage if you also facilitate groups in your teaching. During the course, we delve into the benefits and challenges of using groups in teaching, group psychological aspects such as group dynamics, group development, dysfunctional groups, communication within the group and roles in the group. Based on these group psychological aspects, we delve into the role of the facilitator and opportunities to support groups and individuals and to manage conflicts in the group. The impact and possibilities of digitalisation, heterogeneity and intersectionality as well as critical thinking run as a common thread through the course.
The pedagogical form is naturally based on group learning. It is based on problem-based learning and builds on the successful international Open Networked Learning course. This means that participants' learning takes place in groups of 6 to 8 participants with a facilitator. The groups meet once or twice a week, for one hour online. The groups themselves agree on the times. Between these times, the group works asynchronously on their learning around the issues agreed by the group. In addition, all participants meet in joint webinars about 10 times during the course.
A pilot round of the course will start in week 46, 2024 (11 November) and run until week 15, 11 April 2025, with a break over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
