Time for the first meeting of ABE's newly established School Faculty Assembly

Published Jun 04, 2020

The ABE School Faculty Assembly has begun to form during the Spring and will be further developed in the Autumn. The School Faculty Assembly will be convened twice per semester to discuss common issues. The meetings are open to all the school's faculty, regardless of assignments in the line organization, who want to contribute and participate in the discussions.
The first meeting will take place on Friday 12 June via Zoom.

Erik Stenberg and Agnieszka Zalejska Jonsson

A committee of voted colleagues from all departments will filter and prioritize issues for discussion and plan the School Faculty Assembly meetings. The committee has a chair and vice chair who lead the work. These two are also part of a KTH-overall group together with the chair and vice chair of the other schools' Faculty Assemblies, led by the Dean of Faculty and Vice Dean of Faculty. The School Faculty Assembly may also function as a type of referral body / sounding board for KTH's Faculty Council and also for the ABE school management.

More information

The ABE School Faculty Assembly chair Erik Stenberg and vice-chair Agnieszka Zalejska Jonsson look forward to meeting the entire faculty for the first time and to begin to exchange experiences.

First ABE School Faculty Assembly meeting: How has this Spring's rapid digitization affected the quality of our activities?"

Date: 2020-06-12 at 10.30 - 12.00
The School Faculty Assembly has the task of raising, discussing and developing issues that are relevant to them as colleagues at KTH. The first meeting will be conducted via Zoom.

Invited to the School Faculty Assembly meetings are those who are employed with an extent of at least 50 percent of a full time position with:

  • indefinite appointment as professor, associate professor, lecturer or researcher;
  • appointment as assistant professor;
  • fixed-term appointment of at least two years as teacher on the basis of artistic merits.

Why is a School Faculty Assembly needed?

- The School Faculty Assembly is needed to increase the collegiate conversation and influence at KTH to achieve higher quality in education, research and collaboration, ie to strengthen the bottom-up perspective. The enormous amount of knowledge and expertise available at the school needs more ways to reach up (to the right decision-makers) if KTH is to meet the challenges of the future. The School Faculty Assembly shall not replace the structure of the line organization but supplement it with another form. This form is not complete, but may, for example, be about developing a collective leadership by listening rather than pointing, thinking rather than communicating and catching rather than throwing.

What is the main subject of discussion when the School Faculty Assembly meets for the first time?

- The main topic for the first meeting is "How has this Spring's rapid digitization affected the quality of our activities?" and is, of course, about capturing experiences (both positive and negative) from the Covid-19 pandemic that came in mid-March. We are interested in discussing these experiences in the short and long term to understand how they affect the quality of KTH's education, research and collaboration.

Warm welcome!
