Changed organisation for first and second cycle education at ABE - new roles of responsibility

Published Feb 14, 2019

The organisation of the first and second cycle education (bachelor's and master's level) has changed within the school.
From 2019, the ABE school has a Director of First and Second Cycle Education (GA) with primary responsibility for the school's first and second cycle education and a Deputy Director of First and Second Cycle Education (Deputy GA) with responsibility for subject-specific parts of the first and second cycle education. Rotation between the GA role and the Deputy GA role will occur annually during a four-year term of office.

ABE-school organisation of first and second cycle education in 2019

Head of School has decided to appoint Malin Åberg Wennerholm as one of two responsible for the first and second cycle education within the School of Architecture and the Built Environment during the period 2019-01-01 - 2022-06-30. Kjartan Gudmundsson has previously been appointed Director of First and Second Cycle Education for the school.

During the year 2019, Kjartan Gudmundsson will continue as Director of First and Second Cycle Education (GA) and Malin Åberg Wennerholm will hold the role of Deputy Director of First and Second Cycle Education (Deputy GA). In her role, Malin will be responsible for the first and second cycle education within the subject area of architecture.

The year's current GA represents the school in the GA group centrally at KTH, at quality dialogues etc. GA delegates decision rights to Deputy GA for the education programmes represented by Deputy GA (See image for distribution of responsibility in 2019).

Background

The change occurs following a KTH decision that each school may only have one Director of First and Second Cycle Education (GA). The ABE school has previously had two Directors of First and Second Cycle Education (each responsible for the bachelor's and master's level education within Architecture and the Built Environment respectively). Prior to the year 2019, a working group at the school has therefore analysed how the quality of the architectural education can be ensured both organisationally and functionally in the future. The new organisation of the GA function in the form of GA and Deputy GA roles has been decided to ensure the quality of the bachelor's and master's level education and responsibility for the two main subject areas within school: Architecture and the Built Environment.
