KTH’s new President visited ABE
On December 19, President Anders Söderholm visited various parts of the School of Architecture and the Built Environment. The program included visits to the DiSa lab, presentations of four of the ABE school's research centers, and a visit to KTH Architecture. Participants during the afternoon were also deputy president Mikael Lindström, outgoing deputy president Mikael Östling, the ABE school's heads of departments, and heads of school, among others.
The program started in the DiSa lab's characteristic room, with its high ceiling. 1st vice head of school Björn Berggren welcomed. He presented a brief overview of the ABE school, the investment in the DiSa lab, and the school's heads of departments gave short presentations of their respective activities. Senior lecturer John Leander talked about research in digitization and the built environment, and how they use data from drone scans and AI-based tools to be able to make status assessments of infrastructure. Doctoral student Juan Camilo Avendaño Castillo then performed a spectacular drone flight in the room, and a short question and answer session followed.
The second hour was spent in the Lounge, Teknikringen 10B, where the 2nd vice head of the school David Nilsson presented the school's initiatives in collaboration with industry and society. The directors of four research centers presented their operations:
- Kent Eriksson at the Sustainable Finance Lab
- Sabine Höhler at the Environmental Humanities Lab
- Zahra Kalantari at KTH Water Centre
- Vania Ceccato at the National Network Safe Places
During the last program item, the group visited KTH Architecture. Malin Wennerholm, deputy head of undergraduate education, presented the school's education. The group then went on to the model workshop, where they got to meet workshop manager Anna Eklund, students working on projects, and CNC operator Alexander Sanning. The tour ended with a visit to the drawing rooms, where Claes Sörstedt spoke about KTH Architecture's program and students presented ongoing projects.
The three-hour program ended with mulled wine, buns, and a sweeping view from KTH Architecture's roof terrace.
