Roles and responsibilities of the web managers

The web managers are the general web managers, content managers common sections and local content managers. They work together to develop KTH's websites.

General web managers

Functional responsibilities and roles will be defined for overall web issues within the university administration. The tasks to be assigned to the general functions include:

  • management and development of content issues, including guidelines
  • management and governance of the editorial organisation
  • management of publishing systems and responsibility for obtaining requirements for these from the editorial organisation
  • management and development of overall concepts
  • management and development of training modules for the editorial organisation.

Content manager common sections

A content manager should be assigned to each common section of the website. The role coordinates and supports editors publishing on the section and networks with other web managers.

The content manager for a common section shall:

  • be appointed by the line manager in consultation with the Head of Communications
  • have a good knowledge of KTH's websites' structure and structural principles
  • have a good knowledge of all the subsites that belong to the entrance
  • be a super user of our publishing system and know the various template types and functions
  • have attended the training courses available for the role.

Tasks for content managers common sections

  • Coordinate consistent web publishing within the section and follow current guidelines.
  • Analyse regularly, communicate with editors and develop the section.
  • Monitor that there are editors for all content and unpublish content that does not have a responsible, active editor and bring it up with the accountable manager from the organisation.
  • Manage authorisations within the common section.
  • Be the primary point of contact for support issues within the section.
  • Managing the network of editors and sub-site managers within the section and associated sites.
  • Continuously inform and train the section editors and sub-site content managers on web publishing issues.
  • Forward relevant comments to the general web managers.
  • Be the contact link to editors and sub-site managers for the common section.
  • Be the primary contact for the general web managers.

Training for content managers common sections

A content manager common sections should undergo the following training.

Local content manager

Each school should have a content manager. The role coordinates and supports editors who publish on the school pages and networks with other web managers.

The local content manager shall:

  • be appointed by the line manager in consultation with the Head of Communications
  • have a good knowledge of KTH's websites' structure and structural principles
  • have a good knowledge of all the sub-sites organised within the school
  • be a super user of our publishing system and know the various template types and functions
  • have attended the training courses available for the role.
