The recruitment process for a new president for KTH, who will take office in December 2022, has now begun.
“Sigbritt Karlsson has chosen not to continue for another three years. This is sad news as she has done a really good job, but naturally I fully respect her decision,” says Pia Sandvik, Chair of the KTH Board and Nomination Committee.

The recruitment process includes a number of different steps and the Nomination Committee got the ball rolling in the spring. During the course of unearthing a new prospective president, there is scope for both employees and students at KTH to have their say.

“Our aim is for the process to be transparent and inclusive. We hope that as many members of KTH as possible provide their input based on the eligibility requirements of the appointment set out in the Higher Education Ordinance.”

The first part of the process includes an opportunity to submit proposals concerning what appointment profile the future president ought to have. In the next step, you can submit proposals with the name of who you would like to be president from 2022 to 2028.

“Which qualities are important for the person who is to lead KTH in meeting the major societal challenges to come and where KTH, as the largest university of technology in Sweden, can be part of the solution, are examples of issues to bear in mind.

What challenges are associated with recruiting a new president?

“To ensure we find really good candidates that are ready and willing to take KTH to the next step. As noted, the involvement of students and staff is important as they are familiar with the way KTH works,” says Sandvik.

The position will be advertised in October and by the end of the year, we hope to be able to have the first round of interviews with the short listed candidates. In June next year, the KTH Board will propose one candidate to the government that will then appoint the new president.

You can find more detailed information about the  on the intranet, together with a timetable and how employees and students can submit their views and proposals.
