Get started with the backup

KTH uses Crashplan to back up the computers in the client platform.
Here's how to get started.

To start the backup in Crashplan, one needs to perform some simple but necessary steps: 

  1. install the backup client
  2. log into the service.

1. Installation of the client

Mac

If you have the KTH Mac service, the Crashplan client is already installed and can be found under /Applications/Crashplan.app , with all parameters set correctly. You just need to enable it as below.

If you have ordered the KTH Client Backup service (without having a KTH Mac), follow the instructions "For users of KTH Client Backup" below to download and install the client.

After installation, Crashplan starts in the background and an icon appears in the menu bar.

Continue to log into the service as below.

Ubuntu

If you have the KTH Ubuntu service, the Crashplan client is already installed on your computer. You just need to enable it as below.

If you do not have KTH Ubuntu, follow the instructions "For users of KTH Client Backup" to download and install the client.

Continue to log into the service as below.

Windows

As backup is not included in the service KTH Windows, you need to order the service KTH Client Backup separately. The client program is automatically installed as soon as the order has gone through.

If you do not have KTH Windows, follow the instructions "For users of KTH Client Backup" to download and install the client.

However you installed the Crashplan client for Windows, you need to login to the service as below.

For users of KTH Client backup

If you have ordered the service KTH Client Backup, you need to log in to the Crashplan console and download the client yourself.

  1. Log in at console.eu5.cpg.crashplan.com
  2. Go to "Administration" > Downloads and click the arrow for the correct operating system and computer architecture under the "Download apps" column
  3. Install the downloaded package

  4. Log in to the client according to

    1. Username: username@ug.kth.se

    2. Server Address: clients.eu5.cpg.crashplan.com

2. Log in and activate the client (KTH Mac och KTH Ubuntu)

Once you have the client, it needs to be activated by logging in.

If you do not log in, your computer will not be backed up.

  1. Start the client
  2. Log in with username@ug.kth.se  and your KTH password
