Information about IT-service "IT-workplace KTH Ubuntu".
Description
KTH Ubuntu is a standard workstation based on Ubuntu. It is based on LTS (long term support) versions of Ubuntu, currently 18.04 (bionic).
Purpose

Provide an Ubuntu environment that is adapted to the infrastructure at KTH and intended to work in the computer room as well as for employees.

Reduce the total cost at KTH for efforts within investment, operation and development in local platforms
Scope
Included in the service
- Advice on the purchase of a computer
- Installation of computer
- Installation and maintenance of standard programs
- Installation and maintenance of KTH-licensed software
- Installation of other programs
- Home directory in AFS and it's backup
- Prints to selected printer or via KTH-Print
- Support via the reception desk, phone, e-mail and on site with users at KTH
- For the "KTH Ubuntu - shared administration" service, administrative rights on the computer are included. Please note that with this service, the user is responsible for ensuring that changes (such as program installations or configuration changes) maintain a good level of security.
Service levels
The service is offered in three variants, for both desktop and laptop computers
- KTH Ubuntu - standard
- KTH Ubuntu - shared administration
- KTH Ubuntu - resource machine/computer room (desktop only)
There is also a late server platform based on KTH Ubuntu, but this is not included in the IT workplace.
Limitations
- The service is only available for desktop computers owned by KTH and located at KTH
- The service does not include application support
- Support is only offered during office hours
- Programs included in the Ubuntu standard repository can normally be installed quickly on demand. Other software is assessed when ordering (which should therefore be done in good time).
- We only provide the service for computers purchased in consultation with or approved by service managers
- Backup of local disk not included
- For the "KTH Ubuntu - shared administration" service, support is only provided to a limited extent regarding changes not introduced by ITA.
- Reinstallation of the computer is offered if necessary.

Order
Computers are purchased according to current procedures for each school and department.
All computers must be certified and purchased by using the self-service portal Ordering IT-Products .
Application for KTH Mac access as well as for ordering of KTH client backup can be submitted by authorized purchaser using the ITA-ordering portal, Order IT services and licenses .
