Faculty renewal in focus

Published Apr 09, 2025

The most recent meeting of the SCI Faculty Board focused on the design of the Faculty Renewal Plans to be developed by the departments. Fredrik Viklund, member of the Board, emphasizes that these plans are central to their work.

"A key topic was how exactly institutions should design their faculty renewal plans. These plans will serve as an important tool for the Board, as they will describe departments' strategies for faculty development", says Fredrik Viklund.

The meeting also addressed clearer procedures for recruitment cases, something that has become the responsibility of the Faculty Board since the turn of the year. Viklund says that the committee is actively working on clarifying the criteria and guidelines for decisions.

"The Faculty Board decides whether or not to initiate recruitment procedures. These cases are usually well prepared at departmental level and discussed in the Council of the Heads of Department, but we are now working to clarify the exact basis for our decisions."

In addition, Head of School's Office Erik Edstam presented the School's plans for the reorganisation of HR support, in response to earlier questions from the Faculty Board.

The Faculty Board will continue to work closely with the departments to ensure a clear structure and a long-term strategy for the development of the Faculty.
