Workshops on gender equality, inclusion and equal opportunities

SCI runs a series of JML workshops with different groups across the school. The workshops are part of an ongoing effort to identify experiences and development needs and take them forward in SCI's JML work.

JML workshops at SCI – the work continues

At KTH, work on gender equality, diversity and equal opportunities is referred to as JML. JML is a focus area for the School of Engineering Sciences (SCI). 

Doctoral students and postdocs – the first step in autumn 2025

During autumn 2025, four workshops were held with doctoral students and postdocs at SCI. The aim was to gather their experiences and views on:

  • what doctoral students and postdocs can contribute themselves

  • what they would like faculty, PIs and supervisors to work on further.

Topics raised included:

  • supervision and dependency

  • roles and expectations

  • support and contact points

  • workplace culture and inclusion.

During autumn 2026, we will publish a report on the workshop series with more information.

The issues raised were taken forward with faculty

During spring 2026, the departments held workshops with faculty and other PIs and supervisors. These workshops built on issues raised by doctoral students and postdocs.

Faculty discussed possible approaches and actions in areas including supervision, roles and expectations, support and contact points, workplace culture and inclusion, and follow-up.

From workshops to continued development

The workshops are part of a longer-term process. The results are being used to identify what needs to be developed, at what level different issues are best addressed, and how the work should be followed up.
