Collection of news about updated Canvas functions
Since the autumn of 2021, several functions in Canvas have been updated. The features that have been updated include SpeedGrader and New Quizzes.
Features changed
- Word count in SpeedGrader for submitted text.
- Position of questions at Stimulus in New Quizzes.
- Faster access to building quizzes in New Quizzes.
- Change the date of multiple assignments at once.
- New Quizzes appears on the To-Do List for Teachers.
Word count in SpeedGrader for submitted text
It is now possible to see the number of words in text-based assignments directly in SpeedGrader. This functionality supports the usual file types but only applies to text-based assignments and no other types, such as an assessed discussion.

Position of questions at Stimulus in New Quizzes
As a teacher, you can now place your questions after the stimulus text instead of to the right of it. This can make it easier if, for example, you want students to read through a text or review a picture before answering the question.
The default is still that the questions are to the right of the stimulus text.

Faster access to building quizzes in New Quizzes
You can now access your quizzes in New Quizzes faster by directly accessing the build function without going through the task settings. Now you can press the three dots on the right ("Manage" menu) and select "build" to access your quiz. Previously, you had to press your quiz, go past the task settings and then press the build button.

Change the date of multiple assignments at once
It is now possible to change the due date and availability period of several assignments simultaneously. Go to the Assignment page, press "Assignment Settings" (the three dots at the top right), and select "Edit Assignment Date". There you can see a list of all assignments and their due date and availability period, and choose whether these should be changed for one or more assignments.
What is now possible is to:
- edit all dates one by one
- move forward the dates of all selected assignments simultaneously (in whole days)
- delete dates from selected assignments.

New Quizzes appears on the To-Do List for Teachers
Once students have submitted an assignment in New Quizzes that requires manual assessment, it will appear on the To-Do List for teachers. This gives you a better indicator if you need to make a manual assessment of the student's submission. Students will not see their submissions corrected until you have manually assessed them.
