Create and update presentation-based videos (90 min)
This workshop goes through how you can design, produce, edit and publish recorded presentations in PowerPoint 365, as well as how to easily keep them up to date. The workshop also explains how students study for video material and how to apply some of Richard E. Mayer's design principles to avoid cognitive overload.
Purpose
The purpose of the workshop is to explain how to create effective and sustainable recorded presentation material that can be used and reused as multimedia in teaching. Since PowerPoint 365 is a common and useful tool, the practical parts of the workshop will be based on it. The theoretical parts are based on Richard E. Mayer's principles of multimedia learning and cognitive load theory, as well as a KTH study on how students use video material in their learning.
The workshop is created based on expressed needs from both teachers and students.
Preparations
Parts of the workshop are "flipped", so participants should have access to and watch videos on KTH Play about recording and editing techniques.
We will use and show the Office 365 app PowerPoint as a tool.
Participants are welcome to bring a PowerPoint presentation ready for recording, but we will provide exercise material.
Time required
1,5 hours (90 mins)
Learning objectives
After participating in this workshop, participants should be able to:
-
adapt and optimize their video presentation material by applying some selected design principles to avoid cognitive overload
-
record, edit and export your presentation-based video
-
update previously recorded material
-
describe some use cases for presentation-based video.
