Anders, who is an Associated Professor at the Department of Industrial Economics and Management (INDEK) at the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (ITM), fika chat with Emil Wallgren, Head of Educational Influence at the Student Union of the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (THS), and Marcus Lithander, host of the ‘Fika chat’ podcast.

Podcast guests: Anders Broström

Today's podcast guest, Anders Broström, has co-authored the report “Beyond the expansion – higher education and meeting future skills needs” with his colleagues from the "Entrepreneurship Forum" (Entreprenörsforum), Fredrik W Andersson and Marcus Kardelo. The report was presented at the KK Foundation’s conference “Skills for Competitiveness” on 15 October 2026.

Based on a survey of Swedish students’ educational pathways from 1994 to 2023, the report’s authors argue that higher education institutions need to invest more in developing broader academic skills; in Anders’ own words:

"The trend towards narrower educational pathways, driven by both government authorities and higher education institutions, is unfortunate for individuals, businesses and society, especially in light of rapid technological development and today's changing skills requirements. Students who combine knowledge from multiple areas are better equipped to handle new tasks, collaborate across professional boundaries and adapt."

As well as being a senior lecturer at the Department of Industrial Economics (Indek) at the School of Industrial Technology and Management (ITM), Anders is the CEO of Entreprenörskapsforum, a visiting professor at the University of Gothenburg and an associate editor of *Industry & Innovation*.
