KTH’s Resource Room in Canvas
Do you want to give your students easy access to materials that don’t belong in a specific course room—such as old exams, project files, or more general information? In that case, a resource room in Canvas can be a smart complement to About the Course.
When is a resource room right for you?
A resource room is suitable when you want to gather general information that applies to multiple courses or is more long-term in nature, and that students should be able to access easily. It is a good option if you:
- want to replace older solutions such as course websites, group websites, or wiki pages
- want to publish material that does not fit in About the Course (course memo and Before Course Selection)
- need a publicly accessible space for, for example, old exams, guidelines, or project resources
- have course content that does not belong in a specific course room.
Purpose of a resource room
- The information should be accessible without login.
- It serves as a complement to the regular course room or About the Course, not a replacement.
- It can be used to gather information, links, files, or tips that students and other stakeholders can benefit from without being enrolled in a specific course offering.
How the resource room works
Only teachers are added to the resource room, but the room is public, so students can access it via a link.
The room is created with a simple and clear template with:
- a clean homepage
- modules used for structure
- three empty, unpublished modules for common use cases.
The template is a simple suggestion based on common content in previous course web or group web. The template is available in only one language version—the only thing that varies is the name.
How is a resource room created?
Send a request to
it-support@kth.se
and include:
-
the course code
-
the teachers who should be added.
Once all criteria are met, the room is created manually by IT.
If the room serves as a complement to About the course and the information was previously available on the course website, the room is named “About the course: resources for <course code>”.
If the information was previously available on the group website, the room is named “Resources for <group website name>”.
Note: There is no automatic synchronization – contact IT if you want to add or remove teachers from the resource room.
