In a report, a review of the Department of Learning in Engineering Sciences at ITM School, has been carried out to get a comprehensive description of the department's activities.

"We have lacked a coherent picture, and the review examines the activities, funding, division of responsibilities and missions of the different parts," says Anders Söderholm, President of KTH.

What does the report say?

"Among other things, that there is a mix of tasks, both at the overall level of KTH and for the department itself. This needs to be made clearer and simpler, not least in terms of expectations for both employees and the organisation as a whole. In this way, KTH will be able to make better use of all its expertise, and it will be easier to plan activities," Söderholm says.

ITM Learning consists of three departments and one centre: Learning in STEM, Digital Learning, Language and Communication and the House of Science. The department has a turnover of just over SEK 140 million, of which approximately SEK 50 million is compensation for overall KTH assignments. The remaining resources relate to education and research.

The report, prepared by the Management Office on behalf of the President, shows that it is sometimes unclear where the money goes and what the expectations are, both at the overall level and at the departmental level. As well as describing the current situation, the report's authors make a number of suggestions as to how the organisation can become clearer about where things go and who is responsible for what.

What happens next?

"We will now discuss the data to see how we can take this further, with the report as a basis for further work to create a more efficient and clearer organisation,"Söderholm says.
