Access control system

The purpose of this function page is to describe KTH's central access control system and to provide support for this by clarifying the scope and requirements involved.

Scope

This overarching function description applies throughout KTH.

Definitions

  • Access control system: System to manage door environments and authorisations.
  • Access zone: Authorisation for cardholders for access to a building and/or space.

Responsibility

KTH's central access control system is planned, managed and administered by KTH's security function through its access control function.

A school/division appoints a contact person who is responsible for assigning access zones as well as the establishment of and changes to access zones.

Access control system

The purpose of an access control system is controlled access to KTH's premises by managing the door environment through access cards. Employees, students and others associated with KTH are assigned access rights and zones to the extent permitted in each case, giving the cardholder access to the buildings and premises they need in order to carry out their work, studies or other commitments. The purpose of controlled access is to prevent and deter unauthorised access to KTH's premises, burglary, theft and incidents related to insecurity.

KTH's access control system is centrally connected and communicates through control units, electronic locks, authorisations and programmed functions.

In the event of a change or expansion of an access control system, contact KTH's security function.
