Felicia Gustafsson, who works with equality and equal treatment
Published Nov 24, 2021

We spoke with Felicia Gustafsson, HR officer at EECS. She told us about how the school works with equality and equal treatment issues and how HR handles harassment.

Hi Felicia! You work as an HR officer at the school, tell us a little about it.

"We work with different things at the HR unit, and I am, among other things, the HR contact to a division and handle the ongoing work that goes with it, such as recruitment, employment, introduction, termination and everything in between. In addition, at HR we work with different parts of the work environment.

I work with equality and equal treatment issues in various ways and am the school's contact person for employees that have been subjected to discrimination, abusive discrimination, harassment or sexual harassment. Or if they know or suspect that another employee has been exposed to it."

You handle harassment reports; how does it work?

"Yes, that's correct. First, I and another colleague from HR talk to the person who contacted us regarding what happened. If they want to proceed, we prepare the report and an investigation according to KTH's procedure. Sometimes this does not lead to a report, but there may still be grounds for review, for example, that unwanted behaviour should cease. All cases look different and need to be dealt with accordingly."

How often do you receive such cases?

"The cases I have personally received this year is a handful. And out of these, there are a few isolated cases where they wanted to proceed with a formal report. All incoming cases must, of course, still be handled, even if the efforts and possible measures can become more general."

You have produced material for managers who will support them in their work on these issues. Tell us about it.

"At HR we produce different material for managers that they can use at workplace meetings. This material is about, for example, discrimination and abusive discrimination, KTH's code of conduct and where you can turn for help. In addition, we also produce material that can be used as a basis for discussions on these issues.

There is a lot and good information available on the topic, but not as many concrete cases or issues that you can use in practice. The purpose is to collect and create data that is easy for our managers to use and contribute to a more open climate around these issues. I think it is important to work proactively and create an open conversational environment where we can better understand each other's differences and how we look at things from different angles. This can be a way to contribute to that."
