Get to know Nilgün
- The university administration staff
This is Nilgün Aydin, study counsellor for the 5-year engineering programme in Information Technology. In her job, she makes sure, among other things, that the students get important information in good time and supports them when things are tough.
“Since I am very social, I have always managed to find myself in job positions where I have human contact. It's fun helping the students and making it easier for them while studying with us. The students are super nice and show appreciation.”
Calms the students down
As a study counsellor, Nilgün daily meets students studying the Information Technology programme. Among other things, she supports them with study planning and ensures that they receive important information in good time. She has guidance talks about, for example, optional courses or master's choices.
“I really like to have contact with the students. Often they are worried about their studies, and then I calm them down. Sometimes, they just need to hear that it will work out,” Nilgün points out.
Nobel Prize with the King
Nilgün has an international background with studies in marketing at Ankara University and language studies in London.
After her studies, she joined the Turkish embassy as an ambassador's secretary. An extraordinary experience, according to Nilgün.
“I got to be at the Konserthuset concert hall when the king handed out the Nobel Prize; it's the coolest thing I've ever participated in! It was when Orhan Pamuk received the Nobel Prize in Literature. Every time the king handed out a prize, everyone stood up; there was a lot of standing. It's a night I'll never forget!”
Gather at the dining table
Nilgün is the mother of a twelve-year-old boy, and she spends her free time with him and her family. A large family consisting of her siblings and their children, mother and father. They usually gather at the dining table.
“We help to cook and often make Meze, many different small dishes! The favourite is Turkish dumplings with minced meat with garlic yoghurt or tomato sauce.”
You can usually find Nilgün at the University administration's offices at KTH Kista, and you can reach her at utbadm@eecs.kth.se
